Clinical Hematology and Transfusion Medicine

Goal of the Division

It is the representation of the medical doctors-physicians involved in mainly laboratory but also clinical Haematology and Transfusion Medicine around Europe. The focus is an efficient approach of the various problems that arise in haematology laboratories and transfusion centers through harmonization of practices in the work fields and training as well as further educational programs.

Training - Educational Programs

The basic training is presented in detail in the "Blue Book " and contains the minimal prerequisites for specialization in the division field. Additional programs are also available, most of them awarded with accreditation at a national or international level (e.g. EACME). Every two years EFLM-UEMS congresses (Lisbon 2010, Dubrovnik 2012) have also proven quite successful.

Boards

Under the umbrella of the section several physicians have been board certified as fellows by the section in general and the division in particular.

This is a honorary distinction which, although not necessary for the practice of the specialty in the various European countries, nevertheless enhances these possibilities through prestige.

Meetings

The delegates meet bi-annually in different European cities (recently: Madrid - May 2012, Dubrovnik - October 2012) to discuss issues concerning the object of the division but also, together with delegates of the other divisions, issues involving the section as a whole.
