GOALS

Medical Biopathology is the Medical Specialist practice of Laboratory Medicine. One of the main aims of the European Board of Laboratory Medicine/Medical Biopathology (ELM/MB) is to facilitate the free movement of Medical Biopathologists troughout the European Union. It does this by instituting a "recognition of quality" which will give the candidate the right to the title Fellowship of the European Board of Laboratory Medicine/Medical Biopathology.

The European Board of Laboratory Medicine/Medical Biopathology

  • Recommends the standards required for training specialists in Medical Biopathology.
  • Makes proposals in relation to the quality and content of training programs.
  • Recommends procedures to facilitate the free movement of Biopathologists throughout the European Union.
  • Recommends the criteria to which Training Centres should conform.
  • Examines the content and quality of the training programmes in various countries of the European Union.
  • Facilitates the exchange of specialist trainees between training centres in various countries of the European Union to ensure a better quality of training.
  • Institutes a recognition of quality and competence by establishing the Fellowship of the European Board of Laboratory Medicine/Medical Biopathology (F.E.B.L.M./M.B.).
